My baby will be one soon (!!!) and these past 11 months have been filled with amazing milestones that have melted my heart. There is SO much online about first milestones and tracking their every achievement, but parents will soon discover that it’s not just the big moments that make you take a step back and realise how quickly time goes, but also the micro moments too. Here are the ones that got me…
Actual tears
It’s not something I knew before motherhood, but brand-new babies don’t cry with tears! Their face scrunches up and the let out a ‘wahhhh’ but no actual tears will drop. A few weeks in when I saw my little bubba with actual tears rolling down his cheeks it pulled at my heartstrings massively.
Bye bye pram bassinet
We ditched ours around the five month mark as our son was keen to sit up and look around. But it feels like they are soooo grown up once you see them in the proper pram seat. Here he is braving the London tube!

First giggles
The first smile is magical but for me the first giggle topped it. Once you find something to make them chucklek, it’s gold dust. For us, it was the sound of the rattle so we had many percussion jams in the early days to induce a belly laugh.
First dance
Our boy is a musical chap and he loves a boogie. The moment he started wiggling from side to side to a tune was the cutest thing. Now he does it pretty much every time music is on – we predict a Strictly sensation!
Denim outfit
If there’s one way to make your little cherub look mega grown up, it’s adding denim to their wardrobe. Denim dungarees just looked TOO cute!!!

Gesturing to be picked up
It’s very sweet to be needed by your baby and there’s nothing that confirms it more than them raising their arms to have a cuddle with you. I will warn though, this gets rather tiresome when you’re needing to cook/clean/do anything else other than have a baby on your hip.
Too long to carry through doors
When they are sound asleep led in your arms and you need to make the stealthy journey through a doorway, but alas, they are too long! Once you have to do an awkward side shuffle instead of just carrying them through, you know they are getting big.
As for the first full night’s sleep… I’ll let you know when I get it!
