How To Find The Motivation For At-Home Workouts

As the worldwide pandemic continues, 2021 doesn’t seem very different to 2020 at all, which means we are all still spending a lot of time indoors. As gym doors are once again closed in the UK, at-home workouts have become a popular way to stay fit.

At the start of the first UK lockdown, I shared my favourite at-home workouts and now I thought I would write about the best techniques I use to stay motivated.

Get your workout clothes ready

Getting your clothes prepared beforehand is a clever way to trick your mind and ease yourself into your workout. Whether it’s laying out your running gear the night before or pulling on your yoga leggings in the morning so you’re all set for lunchtime yin, it’s surprising what difference it makes.

Set the scene

Most of us don’t have the luxury of home gyms (sob!) however, you can still make yourself a productive workout area. Yes, you may have to shimmy the sofa or rearrange the dining table but once you’ve made some room, lay out your yoga mat and any equipment you need to transform your room into a make-shift studio.

Stick to a schedule

When it comes to ordinary gym classes, you arrive at a set time according to the timetable and that makes the commitment more solid – so you need to try and do the same at home. Put it in your diary, set an alarm or join an Instagram Live – the routine will eventually become easier, trust me!

Do what works for you

Setting a plan of 7am runs if you’re not a morning person is just never going to work – so have a think about what you enjoy and when you would find easiest to workout and then base your plan around that.

Buy a subscription

Presuming that you’re currently saving money on your usual gym membership, it may be worth considering an online subscription. They tend to be cheaper than bricks and mortar gyms anyway so you’ll still be quids in. Once you’ve put your pretty pennies on the line, you’ll be more likely to show up.

From reading to shopping, here’s how I de-stress

Buddy up

Being accountable to someone else will help you stick to your plan. You and your bestie can sync up with online classes and knowing someone else is logging on with you will really help.

And finally, just remember if you don’t feel like working out, that’s okay – we are living through a very scary global pandemic and sometimes an evening mindlessly watching Netflix is what it takes to de-stress!
